Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged, marking a major moment in a relationship that has captivated fans from the worlds of both music and sports. The couple shared the news on Aug. 26 with a series of photos on Instagram, revealing the moment Kelce proposed in a garden setting.
In the post, Swift referred to herself and Kelce as “your English teacher and your gym teacher,” adding a firecracker emoji. One of the images offered a clear view of the engagement ring, which features a brilliant-cut diamond set in gold. According to Vogue, Kelce worked with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design the ring.
The announcement included Swift’s track “So High School,” a song widely believed to reflect their romance. The lyrics speak of a love that feels like a teenage crush and include lines fans have linked to Kelce, such as “You know how to ball/I know Aristotle.”
A relationship that sparked in 2023
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged just over two years after first sparking dating rumors in 2023. At that time, Kelce revealed on his New Heights podcast that he had tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his number during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City but couldn’t meet her due to her vocal rest schedule.
Kelce later said he was disappointed he didn’t get the chance but found the moment humorous. His story quickly gained traction online, and by September 2023, Swift was seen attending one of his games. From there, the pair became regulars in headlines, appearing together at major events including the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win in February 2024 and her tour stop in June 2024, where Kelce joined her on stage.
From private moments to public milestones
In a 2023 Time magazine profile, Swift spoke openly about the relationship, saying they supported each other publicly and were proud to be seen together. She said it was a contrast to the effort it takes to hide a relationship from the public.
Kelce echoed her remarks in an August 2025 GQ interview, saying their romance felt normal and developed organically, despite the attention it attracted.
Recently, Swift used Kelce’s podcast to announce her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. During the episode, she reflected on how their relationship began, sharing that the bracelet moment reminded her of the kind of love she’d written about as a teenager.
Though he never gave her the bracelet, Kelce ultimately gave Swift something far more meaningful—a ring.
