Vodafone leads Italy’s mobile network rankings for 2025, according to new data from Altroconsumo. The consumer watchdog released findings from a year-long survey based on 14,551 user tests conducted through the CheBanda app between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The report shows Vodafone securing the top spot with 77,527 points for overall network quality, which includes both 4G and 5G performance.
Fastweb followed with 49,725 points, marking a notable jump that pushed TIM into third place with 48,048 points. WindTre and Iliad finished in fourth and fifth place, with 36,552 and 26,430 points, respectively.
Researchers evaluated several performance factors, including download and upload speeds, video streaming quality, and general web browsing experience. The growing presence of 5G significantly influenced the final scores, with more tests conducted on 5G contributing to better rankings for some providers.
5G proves to be a game-changer
Fastweb’s rise to second place is closely tied to its wider 5G coverage. A high number of users tested its services on 5G, giving it an edge over other operators. The data shows that all mobile providers achieved scores more than twice as high on 5G compared to 4G networks.
Vodafone again delivered the fastest download speeds on 5G, reaching 217 Mbps—well above its 4G result of 77 Mbps. TIM followed with 116 Mbps on 5G, while Fastweb hit 106 Mbps. WindTre and Iliad reported 93 Mbps and 65 Mbps on 5G, respectively, with significantly slower 4G speeds.
Use of 5G networks continues to grow across Italy. About 30% of all test results came from 5G connections, up from just over 20% the previous year. Analysts link the increase to improved network infrastructure and more widespread use of compatible smartphones.
Fastweb recorded the highest number of 5G tests, ahead of WindTre and TIM. Vodafone and Iliad saw fewer tests conducted on 5G.
Urban areas outperform national average
The report also pointed out regional variations in performance. Vodafone remained the strongest operator in most parts of the country.
In Italy’s eight largest cities—Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Palermo, Genoa, Bologna, and Florence—users experienced better service than the national average, highlighting ongoing improvements in urban connectivity.
These latest findings confirm Vodafone’s continued dominance in Italy’s mobile network rankings, while also underscoring the growing role of 5G in shaping user experience.
