An 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted near a train station in the outskirts of Milan, Italy, shortly after midnight on Sunday. The attack occurred near an underpass in San Zenone al Lambro, a small town in the Milan metropolitan area. The woman was on her way to catch a train home when the incident happened.
According to investigators, a man confronted the woman as she walked alone and forced her into a nearby park, where he assaulted her. The woman managed to call for help soon after the attack. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported her to Policlinico Hospital in Milan for initial medical care.
Victim receives specialized medical support
She was later transferred to the Mangiagalli Clinic, a facility that specializes in treating victims of sexual violence. Medical staff there provided specialized support following the assault.
Authorities with the Carabinieri’s San Donato Milanese station, along with the Milan Investigative Unit, are handling the investigation. Officers collected a preliminary description of the suspect, who the victim described as a man of North African descent.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the area in an effort to identify the suspect and gather additional evidence.
